Visit of Bulat Nurzhanov's family representative to Ekibastuzskaya GRES-1

January 03, 2026

On January 3, 2026, Ekibastuz GRES-1 was visited by the granddaughter of Bulat Gazisovich Nurzhanov — a man whose name holds a special place in the history of Kazakhstan’s energy sector. The visit was truly touching and symbolic: the power plant that bears her grandfather’s name welcomed its guest with particular warmth.

With sincere emotion and joy, Almira became acquainted with the operations of Ekibastuz GRES-1, noting how important it was for her to see with her own eyes the facility so closely connected with her grandfather’s professional life.

It should be recalled that in 2010, Ekibastuz GRES-1 was officially named after Bulat Gazisovich Nurzhanov. He made a significant contribution to the development of the country’s energy industry, rising from a specialist to Minister of Energy and Electrification of the Kazakh SSR, and later of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the years, Bulat Gazisovich headed the Ekibastuzenergo Production Association, served as First Deputy Minister of Energy, and from 1994 worked as an Advisor to the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

His professional career was closely linked to the construction and commissioning of power units at Ekibastuz GRES-1 and GRES-2, as well as to the implementation of projects that were unique for their time, including 1150 kV high-voltage transmission lines.

This visit served as a reminder that the history of Ekibastuz GRES-1 is a history of people whose work continues to form the foundation of the country’s energy stability and inspires new generations today.
