Limited Liability Partnership "Ekibastuz GRES-1 named after Bulat Nurzhanov" is a thermal power station with an installed capacity of 4,000 MW, located on the northern shore of Lake Zhengeldy, 16 km north of the city of Ekibastuz, Pavlodar region. The station was built as part of the USSR project to create the Ekibastuz Fuel and Energy Complex and is the largest station in Kazakhstan operating on solid fuel. As the largest power station in Kazakhstan, Ekibastuz GRES-1 is also one of the largest coal-fired power station in the world with a current available capacity of 3,500 MW.
